The story

Simon Peter’s life with Jesus

A fisherman from Galilee left his nets to follow a teacher from Nazareth. World of Apostles tells what he saw, in the order of the Gospels and Acts.

Who was Simon Peter?

Simon, son of Jonah, was a fisherman on the Sea of Galilee. He worked the lake with his brother Andrew and kept a house in Capernaum with his wife and her mother.

Jesus called him from his boat, gave him a new name, Peter, the rock, and chose him as one of the Twelve. Simon was there when Jesus taught and healed in Galilee. He often spoke for the others, and on the night of the arrest he denied three times that he knew him.

After the resurrection, Jesus restored him by the same lake. In the Acts of the Apostles, Peter preaches at Pentecost, leads the church in Jerusalem and carries the good news to Joppa, Caesarea and beyond.

  • Jesus at the centre

It is Simon’s story, and Jesus of Nazareth is at the centre of it. He speaks only in the words of Scripture, quoted word for word. Everything else about him is told, never invented.

  • New to the Bible?

You don’t need to know how it ends; Simon doesn’t either. You learn the story as he did, day by day, at the nets, on the road and at the table.

  • Wonders, told with reverence

The healings and signs the Gospels record are shown as quiet, staged scenes. They are never a power the player uses: Simon fishes, works and follows.

The story

The seven chapters

Each chapter opens where the Gospels and Acts take Simon next. The levels show roughly where in the game it begins.

  1. The Call

Capernaum, on the Sea of Galilee · Levels 1–5

Simon, son of Jonah, fishes the lake with his brother Andrew and keeps a house in Capernaum with his wife and her mother. Weeks ago, at Bethany beyond the Jordan where John was baptizing, Andrew brought him to a teacher from Nazareth who looked at him and gave him a new name. Now Simon is home at the nets, and the teacher has come to Galilee.

“Come after me, and I will make you into fishers for men.”Mark 1:17
  2. Galilee Ministry

Capernaum, the Seven Springs and the towns around the lake · Levels 5–10

He has gone through the towns of Galilee, and now he is home again in Capernaum. Crowds follow him everywhere: from Galilee and Judea, from beyond the Jordan, from Tyre and Sidon. Simon walks beside him, and is learning that following is harder than leaving.

“He appointed twelve, that they might be with him, and that he might send them out to preach,”Mark 3:14
  3. The Road to Jerusalem

From Capernaum up to Jerusalem · Levels 10–14

He has told you plainly what waits in Jerusalem, and you rebuked him for it. Now Passover is coming, and he means to go up to the city. Simon Peter, the rock, promises that he will never leave him.

“He said to him, "Lord, I am ready to go with you both to prison and to death!"”Luke 22:33
  4. The Empty Tomb

Jerusalem, Golgotha, and the road home to Galilee · Levels 13–16

The rooster has crowed, and you have gone out and wept. You swore you did not know him, and he turned and looked at you. Now it is getting light, and they are taking him to Pilate. You cannot go near him. You cannot go home. So you follow, from a distance, as you did last night, and you stand far off with the women from Galilee, who did not run.

“saying, "The Lord is risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!"”Luke 24:34
  5. Restoration

The Sea of Galilee, the mountain, and the Mount of Olives · Levels 15–18

Galilee again. The boats are where you left them, the nets are on the racks, and the lake does not know that anything has happened. He said he would go before you into Galilee. So you wait, the seven of you, on the shore at Capernaum. You warmed yourself at a fire of coals in the high priest's courtyard, and said three times that you did not know him.

“So when they had eaten their breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of Jonah, do you love me more than these?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord; you know that I have affection for you." He said to him, "Feed my lambs."”John 21:15
  6. Acts

Jerusalem, Joppa and Caesarea · Levels 18–20

He has been taken up, and the two men in white have gone. Since then you have waited in the upper room, the eleven and Matthias, the women, Mary his mother and his brothers. The city is filling again for the feast of Weeks, fifty days from the Passover. He said to wait. So you wait.

“Now when the day of Pentecost had come, they were all with one accord in one place.”Acts 2:1
  7. The Word Spreads

Jerusalem, Antioch, Caesarea and Babylon · Levels 20–20

But the word of God grew and multiplied (Acts 12:24). Barnabas and Saul have finished their service and taken Mary's son, John Mark, with them (Acts 12:25), and the assembly at Antioch has sent them out over the sea to Cyprus (Acts 13:4). The Gentiles are hearing the word in cities you have never seen. You are in Jerusalem, at Mary's house, an apostle with grey in his beard, and the gate is quiet tonight.

“But we believe that we are saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, just as they are.”Acts 15:11

The story begins at the nets in Capernaum.
